8. Do you think that the subject of specialization will find application in your daily clinical practice in the future?
I believe that the specialization in the General University Hospital of Patras will certainly be present in my daily clinical practice in the future. Firstly, by seeing this huge amount of complex surgical cases performed by experts, I am learning a lot of tips and tricks that I will undoubtedly use in the future. Secondly, the corrections and comments I receive from the experts when I am the one doing, partially of in full, a procedure are extremely useful and will last for long. Additionally, all the research work with them is not only very useful to learn how to develop a research project, but it is also the best way to understand that research is absolutely essential in order to deeply comprehend the diseases we treat, the technology we use and the surgical techniques we employ. Another useful aspect is that I am gaining experience with different hi-tech equipment. Finally, and probably the most important of all, knowing these people, the way they think and the way they tackle surgery and science, has changed my vision of urology forever.
9. Your advice to younger colleagues.
I strongly advice younger people to enjoy learning, to do their best, to observe as many surgeries as possible and to do an academic urology which is what builds the foundations of the future. I would recommend that they enroll in an internationally-recognized fellowship program in the urological field they like the most when they have completed their residency. I think that residency gives you the hull of your ship,
but fellowships provide you with the sails to start your professional path as a consultant.
